Campervan hire holidays are a really fun way to spend time as a couple, a family or just a group of friends. But to get the most out of your campervan hire holiday we have a few suggestions for you. Plan your trip. It’s amazing, but some people turn up to hire a campervan, then think about where they want to go! That’s completely the wrong way round. You have to plan a campervan holiday in order to get the best out of it.  To visit the entire British Isles, Scotland and Wales in a week or less is totally impractical – all you’ll see is lots of motorways and not much scenery. Better to limit your trip to a few key places that you really want to visit and enjoy the journey.

Booking your first two nights on a campsite or campsites will give you a bit of time to get used to a different kind of holiday. This takes the stress out of trying to find somewhere to stay, late at night and when you may be tired. Make sure you bring an up to date camp site guide with lots of sites in the areas that you are planning to visit.

Avoid bringing rigid suitcases. When you hire a campervan, you have a limited amount of space, so your suitcases can really get in the way!

Do not pack too much! Camping holidays are different to hotel or apartment holidays, you will spend more time enjoying the simpler more natural ways to have fun. This is a time to bring families together.

If you are bringing bicycles, check the vehicle has a bike rack fitted – it’s not practical to add one later. And find out how many bikes the rack will hold. Alternatively use a larger motorhome which has a “garage” type layout, which can house your bikes within the garage area.

Check the campsites you intend to visit are open, do not assume they will be open all year ’round! The reason they close in the winter is because the ground is too soft to support the weight of a campervan. In the more remote areas, such as the Scottish Highlands, this is less of a problem.
